BIEAP and FREMP maintain a process for reviewing projects proposed for Burrard Inlet or the Fraser River estuary. This process is outlined in the brochure entitled Coordinated Project Review in Burrard Inlet and Fraser River Estuary. The brochure describes our 3-phase, 4-track process.
Summary of Coordinated Project Review
Coordinated Project Review is supported by the BIEAP-FREMP partners, including port authorities and provincial and federal agencies. The partners use this coordinated approach to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the review process, ensuring a high level of environmental protection for Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River estuary.
Coordination is accomplished by assigning proponents a “lead agency,” normally the port authority having jurisdiction over the site, that acts as the primary contact and liaison with the regulatory agencies.
The process relies on the 3-phase, 4-track system that is described in the brochure. As appropriate to the nature and scale of the proposed project, most applications are reviewed either by the lead agency (Track 1) or the appropriate environmental review committee (Track 2). Please refer to the brochure (PDF, 1.9MB) for a complete description of the BIEAP-FREMP process for Coordinated Project Review.
